ArtsNow Umbrella has arrived. Now the critique. Reply

    Good evening,

I received the umbrella I ordered and here are a few photos. Please remember that ALL panels are white and you can color each one a different color, add your own photos, add patterns to each/all panels...do anything youwant! I chose 7 different colors to check for image bleed plus kept one white just because.

The purpose of these photos is to show you both the inside, outside, operating mechanism for opening/closing the umbrella, etc... Click the link above the photos to see the larger sized image.(500 pixels wide)

Photo 1: Received the umbrella in a plain white cloth sleeve. Packaged good, not damaged. You cannot get the umbrella back into the sleeve. It's like a tent. Take it out of the bax and it never fits back in.

Photo 1 shows the umbrella as it came out of the sleeve.

    http://www.personalized-umbrellas.com/closed1.jpg

Photo 2 shows the umbrella as I'm opening it. The mechanism is showing prior to fully opening it. The handle pulls out easily and is 13 1/2" long. Overall length with handle out is about 21" long.

    http://www.personalized-umbrellas.com/open1.jpg

Photo 3 shows the inside mechanism as the umbrella is being opened.

    http://www.personalized-umbrellas.com/open2.jpg

Photo 4 shows the umbrella fully opened - this is the inside view to show the umbrella mechanism and the support rods. Umbrella opened with no binding, jerking, jamming, etc... Very smooth.

    http://www.personalized-umbrellas.com/open3.jpg

Photo 5 shows an inside view of the umbrella fully opened. Please note that I have an overhead light behind the umbrella to show the transparency.

    http://www.personalized-umbrellas.com/inside_view.jpg

Photo 6 shows the umbrella fully opened looking at it from the outside. I tried to show how the white and other light colors from the photo actually show on the umbrella panel. The white in your photo will be the same white on the actual panel, prior to printing as all panels are white before being printed. Bear this in mind that any white WILL show. If you don't want white, make it transparent and that color will be the color of the panel background when you decide what color/pattern you want to use.

    http://www.personalized-umbrellas.com/open_top_view.jpg

Photo 7 is closing the umbrella to show you the closing mechanism as it is being closed. The umbrella closed very nicely. No binding, fooling around with anything. Really smooth and the handle was then pushed in with no problems.

    http://www.personalized-umbrellas.com/closing1.jpg

On a scale of 1 (being terrible) to 10 (being perfect) I would grade it as:

Operating mechanisim to include opening, closing, handle open/close: 8

Panel printing: panel colors 9 Panel photo printing 9

Packaging - how I received the final product. This is a tough one. The umbrella is expensive and to arrive in a plastic bag with nothing to announce 'Here is your new costly umbrella' I was disappointed a bit but I'll give it a 5 for 'Ho Hum'.

Delivery: As AN stated in the ad, please allow 4 weeks for production plus 14 business days for delivery. It took 42 days from when I placed the order to when I actually received. it.

Overall quality: 8 The sewing, assembly, mechanism used is very very good. I have no problem selling these umbrellas.

Will I sell these umbrellas? Yes. I think due to the high cost my market would be on the high end side.

    Comments appreciated.

    Well Fred,

This is one of the best reviews I have seen from both AN and AC. Thank you very much.

I have also designed and ordered one of these items so will wait for it and post my comments as well.

Would be nice to see reviews of other AN finished products from members as this will only help in our selection of items for resale.

    Cheers

Hi all I agree there should be a section fo actual reviews of real products made and be able to be shown here it would help others decide if they can sell the item or pass on it.

    Hi Gary,

I agree. There is a special section in the ArtsCow forum where people show off their products.

    Hi Ashley,

Did you have any difficulties with the umbrella template? Is there anything I can do to make it easier/better for anyone to use?

Isn't the umbrella pretty good? Good thing is, AN lowered the price of the umbrella by $5.00.

My umbrellas arrived today - theres only 1 word for them - awesome.

I am beyond thrilled and can't wait for it to rain to show them off.

My next will be a design with my web address on and a bag to match to market my own products.

I will post some pics when I get chance. By the way, they all came with their own black nylon slip cover

    >>Its easy when you know how Fred.....you close the umbrella making sure all the spoke ends are inside the end of the handle under the rim. Then gently pull each fold of the umbrella up and out into a point, roll it round in a clockwise direction and fasten with the velcro fastener. Then it should just slide in easilly....

Talking of umbrellas I want to use my own designs and pictures to sell in my store but can't find them in the add product list. Is it only a design your own feature?

    Hi Kitty Cat,

Yes. Although they are listed with other products, no prices have been set yet, including the kids umbrella.

I expect that they wil lappear all of a sudden for us to sell but for now, it's only available in the Design It Yourself feature.

    Fred

    Hi Fred,

Great review... as always. Although I do applaud AN for continuing to expand our selection, unfortunately my experience / rating on the umbrellas is not as high as yours. As far as the printing, the quality is great I will agree, But I had white panels with printing on them, and it looks like my umbrella was packaged up right after printing, so there is ink bleeding all over the panels. also the little storage sleeve was a faded yellow... which looks horrible with the white umbrella.

The frame work of the umbrella is WAY to thin/cheap for the price, and would not stand up in any amount of wind. It is clearly a sunny day umbrella only. I would not sell these on any auction site, as for the dollar required to get them, I was exception something a little more durable, but that's just my two cents.
